Is there a broaching routine in BobCAD?
Hello Bob,
Currently there is not a feature in the system set up for broaching. We have discussed this on several occasions but lack solid examples of what the output would be like, mainly because the output would be very different for different types of broaching procedures.
Broaching Keyways, splines and hexes all require different input and output parameters and code. This is also similar to hobbing in that some machines manufacturers have macro cycles they have created that differ from other macros from other manufacturers, and then just longhand code for the ones that do not.
It takes quite a bit of example data just to be able to make the core function that is flexible enough to work with more than one application, and one machine.
Any information you would like to provide on the subject would be helpful to the development team and maybe eventually we can get a broaching feature created for the system.
perhaps it could just start out as orienting a spindle to a degree and plunge move back retract move further in and do it again…
I just recently modified the plunge roughing code to do this in 4 corners to make square on a haas…
If you would like to send in your sample program with some notes we will get it over to the Dev team
