Parameters: Parent/Child with Lock/Unlock

Hello all,
a lot of tasks are not possible to be done with one operation. Rather usual is to split them among several operations within one/more features.
So this is often the answer given here when looking for a solution to a problem: “Divide it into several operations”. The big drawback with it: you have to do a lot of work (copy/paste, (re)select geometry, …). And it get worse, if it comes to the point where you have done the work and must change one/more parameters (e.g. because of process refinement). So those parameters must be changed in a tedious work for each operation belong together.

I ponder once:

  • What if we can join operations with Parent/Child concept, where children’s parameters equal to the parent ones.
  • If the parent parameter gets changed, all the children’s parameter also change.
  • the opportunity to lock/unlock parameters give maximum flexibility.
For example, a cutter assignment can be changed at any time for several operations at once, or it can be omitted/released for individual operations.

It must certainly be well thought out how this can be implemented and visualized, but for the most common things to be adjusted, such as Geometries, Tools, ‘Top of Feature’, ‘Bottom of Feature’, ‘Rapid Plane’, ‘Feed Plane’, this would certainly be a tremendous support. Basically, it should do for any parameter that is present in both the Parent and Slave operation, maybe even the operations differ?!

Just a thought with hope and big wish: change ones, get modified anywhere you want

Bye, Harald

Hi,

That is a great concept and would save a lot of time, potential mistakes and frustration.

For each operation in the mill wizards there is a blank page “Feature” , could be made useful for this.
